The North end of State Route (SR) 202, from the SR 522 interchange
to 127 th Avenue NE, is the most highly congested roadway in
the Woodinville area. Over 30,000 vehicles pass through this
route each day. The Bottleneck Relief Project (BNRP) was a
phased traffic improvement project to reduce congestion in
this area. The cost of the project was covered in part by an
award from the State Transportation Improvement Board, and
from the City's Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) funding.
Construction began on the North Leg SR 202 in 2006. During
this phase the City constructed left turn lanes on Southbound
SR 202 onto Little Bear Creek Parkway to reduce the congestion
at this intersection, and constructed a retaining wall on the
North Leg of SR 202 to widen SR 202. This project also included
landscaping and a 10' wide sidewalk on the east side of SR202
between 177 th Place and SR522, and the installation of new
sidewalks, islands, curb and gutter, as well as new traffic
signals at the intersection of the on and off ramps on SR202
at SR522. This project was completed in 2008.
In August 2008, the City started construction on improvements
at the intersection of 131 st Ave NE (SR 202) and NE 175 th
St , or BNRP-Southeast Leg. This project included the construction
of an additional southbound turn lane on 131 st Ave NE onto
NE 175 th , and an additional east bound lane on NE 175 th
Street . Additional improvements included sidewalk and bike
lane improvements, landscaping along the Southern side of NE
175 th St , new signals, and drainage improvements along the
project site. This project was completed in the spring of 2009.
