What To Do Before the Burglar Comes

The City's Crime Prevention Program engages neighborhoods, businesses, individuals and groups in understanding the importance of crime prevention. The Program includes:

•  Neighborhood Block Watch or Business Block Watch: Meet with the Crime Prevention Coordinator and City police officer to learn how to organize your neighborhood or business complex as a Block Watch (BW). Select a BW Captain to be the liaison between your neighborhood and the City. Learn how to create a phone tree to contact your BW neighbors quickly. As a formal Block Watch, you'll receive Police Alerts via email. Block Watch signs (customized or standard) are available to active BW communities. Cost of signs is paid by home/business owners and installed by the City.

•  Operation Identification: Learn how to mark personal property with an identification number that assists in returning stolen property recovered through a crime investigation.

•  Site Security Checks: Schedule a site security check with the Crime Prevention Officer and a Police Officer to learn how to make it more difficult for a burglar to enter your home or business.

•  Educational Materials: Download the informational materials posted to this web page. Share them with your neighbors.

•  Special Events: The City hosts and participates in special events to promote crime prevention. Contact the City to find out about upcoming events or ask us to participate in your event.

The Woodinville Police Department hosts periodic free seminars at Woodinville City Hall covering crime prevention and personal safety strategies. The workshop, “Refuse to Be A Victim”, was developed by the women of the National Rifle Association of America (NRA) in 1993, in response to women nationwide who requested crime prevention and personal safety information. The
program has evolved throughout the years and now includes both women and men. The NRA continues to sponsor the seminar in conjunction with many other businesses promoting and teaching safety education. The seminar addresses mental preparedness, home & physical security, as well as travel by automobile.

Residents or business owners in the City of Woodinville are welcome to attend. The seminar is designed for small groups, so space is limited to twenty (20) participants.

Pre-registration for the next seminar is required by September 20, 2011. To sign-up fill out the linked form and email it to shelias@ci.woodinville.wa.us.
