Winter Weather Driving Announcement
With the threat of snow over the next several days, Woodinville residents and businesses are encouraged to prepare for this storm and the winter weather season.
Winter Driving
In the event of snow requiring street maintenance, the City will follow its snow plow guidelines. To view the Snow Plow Priority Routes Map, please visit www.ci.woodinville.wa.us.
Drivers are encouraged to stay off roadways if roads are covered in snow, ice or other hazardous conditions.
If you must drive, stock your car with basic safety equipment such as jumper cables, an ice scraper, tow chains, tire chains, cat litter or sand for traction, and a small shovel. Vehicles should also have road flares, blankets, gloves, warm clothing, water, emergency rations, flashlights with batteries, and a first aid kit. Remember to allow yourself ample time to reach your destination and keep your gas tank full.
Additionally, please remember the following winter driving tips from the Washington Department of Transportation:
1. A slow and gradual acceleration gives your vehicle the best chance to gain traction on slick roadways.
2. Give yourself and other cars plenty of room to slow down, since winter road conditions may require greater stopping distances.
3. Drive with your headlights on, and keep your windows free of ice, fog, and grime.
4. Drive for conditions, and understand the limitations of your vehicle.
Personal Preparedness & Home Safety
Citizens and businesses are reminded to have emergency supplies kits for home, work and vehicles. Emergency kits should include essential items; basic first-aid, food, water, warm clothes, blankets a transistor/battery-operated radio and other tools that can help during an emergency.
The American Red Cross encourages residents to check on their neighbors who have special needs, such as disabled persons and seniors.
Remember to use alternate heat sources safely and wisely. Follow all manufacturers’ instructions on use, and maintenance. Adequately vent fueled space heaters (e.g. kerosene, propane, alcohol) to avoid fatal carbon monoxide gas buildup. Do not use outdoor grills or camp stoves indoors as they may also cause carbon monoxide poisoning.
