Wind and Winter Preparedness
Woodinville, WA- With the threat of snow and high winds over the next several days, Woodinville residents and businesses are encouraged to prepare for this storm and the winter weather season.
Windstorms:
High winds and snow are forecasted over the weekend. The high wind could produce power outages around the area. To report power outages please contact PSE at 1-888-225-5773.
The City would like to encourage residents to consider the following tips if the power goes out.
• Turn off lights, electrical equipment, and appliances (except refrigerators and freezers), and leave in the off position. Leave one lamp on, so you will know when power is restored.
• Remember to use alternate heat sources safely and wisely. Follow all manufacturers’ instructions on use, and maintenance.
• Do not use gas ovens, gas ranges, barbecues or portable or propane heaters for indoor heating—they use oxygen and create carbon monoxide that can cause suffocation.
• Stay away from down power lines and sagging trees.
For more information on carbon monoxide poisoning, using a generator during a power outage and other safety tips, go to www.emd.wa.gov. (Multiple languages available)
Personal Preparedness & Home Safety:
Citizens and businesses are reminded to have emergency supplies kits for home, work and vehicles. Emergency kits should include essential items; basic first-aid, food (high energy food or food that requires no cooking is the best), water, warm clothes, blankets a transistor/battery-operated radio, flashlight and extra batteries and other tools that can help during an emergency.
The American Red Cross encourages residents to check on their neighbors who have special needs, such as disabled persons and seniors.
