133rd Ave NE Grid Road

Project Overview

The project extends 133rd Avenue NE from NE 175th Street to Little Bear Creek Parkway (NE 177th Place) and will significantly enhance connectivity in the region. The work also includes the construction of a new roundabout at the intersection of Little Bear Creek Parkway and Woodinville Snohomish Road.

Key Benefits 

  • Reduced Congestion: The extension will help alleviate traffic congestion in the downtown area by increasing overall roadway capacity.
  • Improved Access: This new pathway will provide an alternative route into the Downtown area, easing the flow of traffic from State Route (SR) 522.

Scope of Work

First Segment between NE 175th Street to Woodinville Snohomish Rd was completed on May 6, 2025. This segment was constructed by Mainstreet Property Group as part of their adjacent Eastrail Flats development. Key improvements included: 

  • Enhancements to the existing intersection at NE 175th Street.
  • Construction of the new intersection at Woodinville Snohomish Road.

Second Segment between NE 175th Street to Woodinville Snohomish Rd. This segment will be constructed by the City of Woodinville. Key improvements include:   

Project Gains

Public Art: A unique public art installation will be placed at the center of the new roundabout, enhancing the visual appeal of the intersection.

Illuminated Glass Sculpture: An illuminated glass sculpture will be installed above the skylights of the pedestrian tunnel, creating a visually appealing focal point for both drivers and pedestrians.

Project Status:

  • Design: 90% complete.
  • Bid Package: Currently in progress.
  • Right-of-Way Acquisition: In progress.
  • Pedestrian Tunnel Award (Titan Earthwork) and Construction Management Agreement (KBA) were approved by the City Council on February 18, 2025.

Project Schedule

  • Bid Issuance: April/May 2025.
  • Construction Contract Award/Start: Summer 2025.
  • Anticipated Completion: Between 250 days to one year from the start date (exact timeline to be determined).

 Project Cost

    • Approved Budget: $9.5 million
    • This includes over $5 million through the Mainstreet Development project.
