NE 171st Street Slope Stability

The City of Woodinville has several creeks that flow through its City limits. One of the creeks, Woodin Creek, is undercutting the southern portion of NE 171st Street due to soil erosion, which has caused unstable slopes. Woodin Creek originates in unincorporated King County, to the east of Woodinville, before eventually flowing alongside NE 171st Street and merging with the Sammamish River at Woodin Creek Park. The area of concern is the stretch of NE 171st Street between the City limit and 143rd Place NE.

The overall goal of this project is to identify feasible alternatives for controlling the degradation of Woodin Creek and subsequent impacts to slopes along NE 171st street. This project includes identifying the causes of embankment instability and sediment aggradation, and then identifying areas where stabilization could be applied to protect the integrity of NE 171st street. This is done through field data collection, natural landscape evaluation, and channel surveys.

The initial evaluation phase of this project has started and is expected to be completed no later than December 2024. The City will subsequently take into consideration the proposed solutions before moving forward.
