Message from Retiring Police Chief Katie Larson

Message from Retiring Police Chief Katie Larson
Posted on 06/15/2021
I wanted to take a moment to let you know that I will be retiring at the end of June. After nearly seven years as your police chief and 37 years in law enforcement, it is time to step away and explore life from a new perspective.

I have had an amazing career and am truly proud to have served all of you. Looking back I wouldn’t change anything (aside from my pre-hire photograph in 1984 in which I was sporting mullet/perm look which truly hurts my eyes to look at). So many changes over the years!

I think we are moving in the right direction and there is still much to do. My ask is for your patience. Change, if it is to be meaningful, takes time. It also takes thought, and it comes from a place of true understanding of the issues at hand. Change is accepting each other’s differences while at the same time celebrating our individuality and respective cultures. For me, it really comes down to treating others as you want to be treated.

I am excited to introduce your new police chief, BJ Myers. Many of you know him already, as he recently served as one of our sergeants here in Woodinville from 2019-2020. We are thrilled to have him back with us, and I know without question that he has the skills and passion to successfully lead the police department. BJ has has my full support, and I believe he will take policing in our city to the next level. We have had many discussions regarding some new and innovative programs he will be introducing to the city and I can’t wait to see the amazing things he is going to do.

Please know that you have an incredible city manager and staff. I have worked with a number of cities over the years and the amount of work done by this relatively small group of people is truly amazing. This is one of the most committed group of city staff I have ever worked with.

To the Woodinville deputies both past and present: It has been an honor to work with each and every one of you.

Again, to all of you, thank you so much for your support over the years. The kindness you have all shown has kept me going, especially this past year.

Take the very best of care and be kind to one another.

Chief Katie Larson
