Admissions Tax


Program Information

The City of Woodinville administers an Admissions Tax through the Finance Division of the Administrative Services Department.  This program requires any person, group, or business that charges a price for admission to charge and collect admissions tax.  This includes online and third party ticket sales.

You will need to register and submit quarterly returns to the City of Woodinville, if you or your organization hosts an event where any of the following are applied to your patrons:

  • Cover charge
  • Entrance fee
  • One-time charge
  • Season ticket price

EXEMPTIONS

Some organizations may be exempt from Admissions Tax based upon their specific type of organization, activity, or location.  Below is a general list of the exemptions, however for more specific information you should refer to current municipal code.

The following activities may be exempt from the City's Admissions Tax:

  • Activities of elementary and secondary schools
  • Activities of churches and religious organizations
  • Government activities
  • City sponsored and co-sponsored events
  • Activities of nonprofit organizations that meet specific criteria - see Woodinville Municipal Code 3.10
  • Activities held within the boundaries of the City's Tourist District

Admissions Tax Rate

The admissions tax rate for the City of Woodinville is 5% of the established ticket price and the proceeds are used to acquire, maintain, and improve City parks per the Woodinville Municipal Code.




How to Comply

Prior to your event:

Submit the application for Certificate of Registration Admissions a minimum of two (2) weeks prior to your first event to the City’s Adminstrative Services Department: Via email: finance@ci.woodinville.wa.us

Once your application has been reviewed, you will receive a Certificate of Registration Admissions for posting at your event. The Certificate is valid until December 31st of the year it was issued.

During your event:

List the applicable admissions tax rate on the ticket separate from the ticket price.

Example: Cost of Admission Breakdown
Ticket  $20.00
 Admissions Tax  $1.00
 Total Cost of Admission  $21.00

Post the Certificate of Registration Admissions along with a sign that breaks down the admission charge in an obvious place at the entrance to the event or ticket office.

After your event:

Admission taxes are due quarterly within thirty (30) days after the end of each quarter. Fill out and submit the Admission Tax Return with payment to the City's Administrative Services Department. A penalty of 10% will be assessed for taxes that are up to 15 days past due. The penalty increases to 15% for taxes submitted 15 days or more past due. A minimum penalty of $10 will be charged on all late taxes.
